A Roll-Royce Silver Cloud Time Capsule

Serene, stately and timeless. All fitting and undeniable characteristics for any Rolls-Royce, but for this Silver Cloud timeless is definitely the best description.

Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II

The 1962 Silver Cloud II currently on display at RACV Club Melbourne is as near as you will ever see to a showroom condition 62 Roller. And that’s not because it has been restored to concours condition, but because it’s still like it was when new.

The car has only had two owners and they’ve both used the Rolls very sparingly since 1962. There was also a 15 year period of garage storage during that time, so it currently has a meagre 19,555 miles on the odometer. That averages out at just 369 stately miles covered per year, or less than a return trip from Melbourne to Albury. And even if the years of garage storage are not included, the average still amounts to only 515 miles per annum.

Original Avon spare tyre

If distance travelled was the only consideration, this 53 year old car could still be under warranty. The originality of this exquisite vehicle extends to the Silver Cloud still having the original, and unused, spare Avon tyre in the boot along with the jack and tool kit.

Thanks to Daryl Meek, Motoring Interests Manager at the RACV, I was able to have a look inside the car and check out that odometer. It’s true. 19,555 miles. That is truly breathtaking.

The other breathtaking element of this car is the aromatic mix of aged leather and wood that envelopes you when the door is opened. And afterwards, the door clicks closed with that quiet, exclusive authority that says ‘Rolls-Royce’.
